After you have figured out what the focal point in each room in your home is going to be, you need to then figure out what style of furniture you would like in each room.

You need a sense of harmony in the room so that you can create an ideal aesthetic and visual balance. The mood, liveliness, and energy level in each room should be high and similar to your personality. All the items that go into any particular room should have some sort of functionality or use to you or to your guests. Functionality can be decided upon by figuring out things like: will the room be used as a quiet retreat for sleep and/or relaxation, a comfortable reading or entertainment area, or for a romantic area for couples. You should also decide what type of mood you want your room to feel like. For instance, do you want a masculine room, a feminine room, modern room, contemporary room, restful room, or a demure room. There are a few things you can do to help achieve harmony within any room in your home. You should always try to avoid clutter and keep any useless products out of the room. Frills make a room look feminine, but classic furniture with contemporary furnishings will almost always look good in a room. Neutral colors will make any room look modest and calming and in some cases even dull, but you can have accessories in bright colors like red and green to add dramatic touches without disrupting the harmony of the room.
Modern and sleek homes today tend to have a single multi-purpose item instead of several small furniture items. You should try to find just a few simple accessories for a room that you chose carefully and in moderation. The color schemes you decide on for each of your rooms in your home will have a huge impact on the feel of the room and how people feel while inside the room.
