How to find a Focal Point in a RoomMany people either do not realize it or just cannot find it, but every room in your home has a natural focal point. The focal point of any room is that one place that your eye comes to rest for the first time every time you enter the room. Since it is the first thing you almost always notice when you or someone else walks into the room the focal point is really important when decorating your home. First you need to figure out what object will attract the most attention, like a fireplace, a piano, or even a television. The focal point can also be a unique feature that is just built right into the room like a large area rug, a large glass coffee table, or a large stunning mirror on one of the walls. If your home has a unique feature like a fireplace then you could always still add either a mirror or some kind of framed artwork above the fireplace to add to the focal point in that particular room. If a room does not have a natural focal point then you can be creative and use your very own sense of style, and find a stylish area rug or an antique armoire for the room. Now that you have figured out what the focal point of a room is going to be then you need to figure out how to arrange all your furniture so that everyone in the room can completely appreciate it. When you look at the seating you want in the room you should always make sure there is enough room to move freely. You should always put sofas and love seats in the room first because they are considered room shaping pieces. You can then add other pieces like end tables and ottomans that complement all the larger furniture already in the room. Next you need to add a few accessories to the room like plants, shelves, bookshelves, and artwork. If your focal point is more of an eye-catching, concrete type object then you can add a glass topped table. The most difficult room to find a focal point in is usually the living room, so the focal point in all other rooms in your home should be much easier to find. Your dining table is usually the focal point in your dining room and your bed is usually the focal point in your bedroom. You just need to make sure things like your dining table and bed are as striking as possible by adding a nice linen tablecloth, a beautiful headboard or a luxurious comforter set. |
