PaintWhen you are choosing the right color schemes for your home you need to make sure that there is a sense of harmony between the colors you choose. You can use a color wheel to help find the right color combination for your walls, furnishings, accents, accessories, and furniture. There are three types of common color schemes: analogous color scheme, complimentary color scheme, monochromatic color scheme, and triadic color scheme. An analogous color scheme will use three hues that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Analogous color schemes use only a combination of warm colors or a combination of cool colors. A complimentary color scheme uses two colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. The complimentary scheme tends to be on the bold side, but lends an impressive touch to any home décor. A monochromatic color scheme uses only one color, but uses a variety of that particular color’s tones, tints, shades, textures, and values. A triadic color scheme will use three hues that are consecutively placed or are equal distances from each other on the color wheel. An example of a triadic color scheme is red, yellow, and blue as well as their different tones, tints, shades, textures, and values. There are a few easy to follow steps to help you decide what color scheme would be the best for your home. First you should pick your personal favorite color(s) for your color palette. You can use the lightest shades of the color(s) for the wall paint, the medium color(s) range for the large furniture, doors, windows, cabinets, and closets, and the darkest shades of the color(s) for the accessories. You should remember that white and pale colors will reflect light better than darker colors and will make the room appear larger while darker colors make a room appear smaller but cozier. If you have a room in your home that is particularly small you should paint the walls either white or a pale color and the accessories should be either bright colors or dark colors so they appear to occupy more space. Many people still like to decorate their home with neutral colors like white, beige, and taupe. Off-white and beige colored furniture will help create a simple peaceful feel to your home. If you would like to create a warm rustic look you should use darker neutral shades of black, rust, and brown. You can find natural fibers in curtains, slipcovers, pillows, and window draperies in neutral colors. Ivory, black, and gray are all considered neutral colors, but their undertones can be blue, tan, yellow, gold, pink, and peach along with many other colors. You should remember that red is a warm color but can add an instant sense of life to neutral colored home décor. |
